When an animal is the victim of abuse or neglect and the animal welfare authorities order it to be seized, animal shelters are called in at the front line to remove it, take it in, house it, care for it and offer it a new life.
But very often, their mission does not stop there.
➡️ Legal action to defend animals
Shelters don’t just take in animals that have been seized: sometimes they also take legal action to ensure that justice is done. Complaints against the perpetrators of mistreatment, follow-up of proceedings, veterinary expertise, representation before the courts… these are all essential actions to ensure that the guilty parties are punished and that the victims have a brighter future.
➡️ Appeals that prolong the battle
Sometimes the perpetrators of abuse or neglect deny the facts and appeal against court rulings in an attempt to recover the animals that have been taken away from them. These appeals lead to lengthy and costly procedures, forcing shelters to finance new legal fees and court costs at their own expense. During these appeals, the animals are ‘blocked’, their adoption is frozen, which prolongs their stay in the shelter, and the cost of their accommodation is borne by us.
➡️ Animal protection association AND shelter
Unlike some organisations that focus solely on political and legal action, our commitment goes further: we also manage day-to-day infrastructures. With four shelters and over 1,000 animals in our care, we have to find a balance between these activities and our primary mission: to care for the animals entrusted to us.
➡️ A financial and human cost
These actions have a price: legal fees, expert reports, but also the time and energy of the teams mobilised to move these cases forward.
And yet these battles are essential if we are to advance the animal cause and prevent others from suffering the same fate.
Please support us!
Every donation, every sharing and every support is essential to us.
Become a member for 20 euros a year and symbolically join our cause. With you by our side, we can carry more weight in making our demands heard.
Become a monthly donor: a regular donation, of any amount, is a stable support that ensures the continuity of our missions.
Occasional donations, according to your means, allow us to contribute to urgent needs, such as the purchase of equipment or repairs.
Whatever the amount of your donation, you are making an invaluable contribution to the animals in our shelters.
Thank you.
